Bodymusic started life in the east end of London in 2004 in the upstairs of a little known venue called clockwork in Islington, where the upstairs industrial warehouse-esque surroundings combined with our hired in 4k sound system, created an ambience likened to that of an early 90's warehouse party.
From the very beginning we adopted a philosophy of putting on parties that featured the kind of vibe, music & atmosphere we would go to ourselves, nights of which, in our opinion, were lacking in the capital at the time & we made a point of delivering a night that featured diverse, interesting & eclectic music, spanning the soulful dance music spectrum & selectively picked interesting DJ talent, most of whom were not often seen in the UK, for a clued up crowd who wanted to party hard.
Bodymusic in its formative years was one of the 1 st UK parties to feature the likes of rarely seen talent, such as Quentin Harris, Tyrone Francis, Mr V, Karizma, Ian Friday & DJ Spinna, all of whom are now virtually household names within dance music circles.
With the success of the night snowballing, it wasn't long before word spread & an offer for a regular bi-monthly event at the newly opened Key club in kings cross was taken up & the party really began.
Bodymusic continued here for 2 years & featured a whole host of diverse talent both homegrown & Stateside & brought its loyal & ever growing crowd DJ's such as,
DJ Spinna, louis Benedetti ( soulshine recs ) Terry Hunter, Bob Jones , Yam Who, Gilles Peterson, Franck Roger, Mad Mats, Mr V, Fanatix, Paul Trouble Anderson, JoJo Flores, Nicki Siano & many more, in a small intimate club space with a rockin sound system, with the only specification to DJ's being that they played whatever they wanted to, old, new, house, soul, dance floor jazz, disco & anything within the soul music spectrum.
The party rocked & got a reputation as one of the best underground parties in London.
With the notoriety rolling high the press soon jumped upon us & Bodymusic received acclaim with editorials, recommendations & full page write ups in Metro, Timeout, Evening Standard, DJ mag, London Lite, London Paper, Blues & Soul, New Nation, Straight No Chaser & NoShon mag as well as all various nightlife & lifestyle websites, & elevated our profile higher & put us on the map as a recognized & respected club event & brand.
With the inevitable closure of key looming, we thought ahead & made the move to revamped, re-launched Plan B in Brixton & took the event to another level again.
In our 2 years here we featured Bugs In The Attic, Vikter Duplaix, DJ Spen, DJ Spinna, Kerri Chandler, Mr V, Wookie, MJ Cole, Phil Asher, David Harness , DJ Fudge , Dennis Ferrer, Domu, Franck Roger, Jazzanova, Jazzie B & many more names from within the soulful dance music scene, & hosted some of the busiest roadblock parties the venue had seen on both floors of the venue.
Bodymusic has become a well known & respected name in the world of soulful dance music circles both in London, the UK & abroad & has always been a firm favorite with partygoers & the music industry alike.
We have never had to cash in our musical morals to fill a club but have instead tried to bring an underground scene to a wider audience without loosing credibility.
